Quality affordable housing and Puerto Peñasco don’t even seem to go together in the same breath. However, there is a local home builder, Mediterraneo Residencial, that is taking on this issue. Life long Peñasco resident Arturo Taddei his American partners, Jack and Mark Reabold, have been building quality affordable houses in Peñasco for over one year. The company built and quickly sold out of Phase 1 the first year and their, Phase 2, is just off of the popular tourist road, Samual Ocaña Blvd, which leads to the Sandy Beach Resorts. Situated just south of the airport and 7 blocks north of Ocaña Blvd, it is in a newer residential area with city water and electric.
Mediterraneo Residencial was formed to address the desparte need for affordable housing which Taddei has witnessed first hand growing up in Peñasco. “It is amazing to me that this city has grown so rapidly with many condominiums and expensive houses but no one was addressing the housing needs of the local population” Taddei said. Jack Reabold expressed the same sentiment “My family has been coming to Rocky POint since the early 80’s and we have watched the quaint fishing village turn into a world class destination spot for tourists. We wanted to so something socially responsible for what we consider to be out second home”. Reabold has experience building luxury homes on Phoenix and applies the same US quality standards to the homes they are building in Peñasco.
The company is very strict on the construction techniques and will not cut corners when it some to quality and attention to detail. Their motto is “The place where your family deserves to live”. They use full block construction with insulated concrete roofs which provides for cooler homes in the summer and warmth in the winter. They chose to use block construction over the less expensive construction technique of steel wire frames and concrete walls which are thinner and tend to be hotter in the summer and colder in the winter. As Taddei puts it “I’ve lived in Peñasco all my life and I know how hot and cold it can be during these reasons. We wanted to make sure that we built our homes to be comfortable throughout the year”.
The exteriors feature architectural enhancement such as pop outs around the windows with security bars, bi-level roof line with finished trim accents and a pleasing two tone body/trim paint scheme. A tile roof overhang above the solid wood front door and paved driveway with grass and gravel front yard with sidewalk and posts with wrought iron front gates round our the visual curb appeal of these homes. The interiors are fully finished with yeso plaster walls, solid wood cabinetry and trim, ceramic tile, ceiling fans, cable and telephone outlets in all rooms and other little touches make this beautiful home that anyone would be proud to own. “We need to build a home that we are proud of and would live in ourselves if we expect to be successful” states Mark Reabold. “We are not a large company from out of town so our reputation must be foremost in our minds at all times in order to provide the best value and quality for the people of Peñasco” Reabold stresses.
Mediterraneo Residencial homes sell for around $50,000 USD but the company can build just about anything the customer wants from a custom designed beach front home or another area of town to commercial buildings. Their standard homes range in sizes from 53 to 80 square meters and sit on 178.15 square meter lots so the back yard is quite sizeable. The base model 2 bedroom 1 bath comes with many standard features that most builders charge as upgrades. Many options are available for the himes including extra bedrooms or bathrooms, laundry room, second story, garage or carport, air conditioning, fully fenced black wall, kitchen appliances, etc. Taddei said that they have built several customized models complete with garage, RV gate, air conditioning, laundry room, custom cabinetry, high end appliances and granite counters. They can even arrange for the home to be fully furnished. “our goal is to operate with the highest customer service, utmost honesty and most important, integrity” Taddei explained. “To be a home builder, we must offer the best home for the money and stand by our mission of providing quality affordable housing for the local people”.
The company works with Infonavit, Fovisste along with mortgage companies such as Su Casita and ither banks to walk their customers through the entire process of purchasing a home. Taddei and the Reabold’s want their customers to be fully informed and understand every aspect of the home construction and buying process. It is their commitment to customer service and integrity that continues to drive their sales. “We need to take care of our customers; before, during and after the purchase” Taddei said. “They are ehat makes us successful and provides word of mouth advertising”.
